How to Use

  1. 1 Paste the destination URL your campaign links to
  2. 2 Enter the required parameters: source, medium, and campaign name
  3. 3 Optionally add term (paid keyword) and content (to differentiate links)
  4. 4 Keep ‘lowercase values’ on so 'Email' and 'email' don't split your reports
  5. 5 Copy the generated tracking URL into your ad, email, or social post

Features

  • Builds standard GA4/Universal Analytics UTM links with all five parameters
  • Validates the three required fields and flags anything missing
  • Percent-encodes every value correctly — spaces, ampersands, Unicode
  • Merges cleanly when the destination URL already has a query string or #fragment
  • Warns about mixed-case values that would fragment your campaign reports
  • 100% client-side — your URLs are never uploaded; save/bulk/branding come with Pro

Why it Matters

UTM parameters are how Google Analytics, GA4, and most marketing platforms attribute a visit to a specific campaign. A single typo — 'Facebook' vs 'facebook', a space where there should be an underscore, an unencoded ampersand — splits one campaign into several rows or breaks the link entirely. This builder enforces the required fields, normalises casing, and encodes every value so your attribution data stays clean and trustworthy.

What this tool does

The UTM Link Builder appends Google Analytics campaign parameters to any destination URL and gives you a clean, correctly-encoded tracking link. Enter the destination, fill in the required utm_source, utm_medium, and utm_campaign fields (plus optional utm_term and utm_content), and copy the result straight into your ad, email, or social post.

Why UTM tagging matters

Analytics platforms use UTM parameters to attribute each visit to a campaign. Get them consistent and your reports tell a clear story; get them sloppy and one campaign fragments into a dozen near-duplicate rows. This builder enforces the required fields, normalises casing, and encodes every value so the data you act on is trustworthy.

Free vs Pro

The builder you see here is free forever and runs entirely in your browser — no account, nothing stored. For teams that run many campaigns, UTM Builder Pro is planned to add saved templates, a shared naming convention, bulk generation from a spreadsheet, branded short links, and click analytics. Only the free single-link builder ships today.

Privacy

Everything runs locally in your browser. The URLs you build are never uploaded, logged, or stored.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are UTM parameters?
UTM (Urchin Tracking Module) parameters are tags you add to a URL's query string so analytics tools can attribute a visit to a specific campaign. The five standard ones are utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term, and utm_content. Source, medium, and campaign are the three most tools require.
Which UTM parameters are required?
By convention and for most reports to work, you should always set utm_source (where the traffic comes from), utm_medium (the channel, like email or cpc), and utm_campaign (the campaign name). utm_term and utm_content are optional — term is mainly for paid keywords and content for differentiating two links to the same page.
Why should I lowercase my UTM values?
UTM values are case-sensitive in analytics reports, so 'Email' and 'email' show up as two different mediums and split your data. Lowercasing everything (which this tool does by default) guarantees one consistent value per channel. The tool also warns you when it detects mixed case.
Does this tool store my links or work for free?
The builder is completely free and runs entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded or saved. Saving campaign templates, bulk-generating links from a spreadsheet, branded short links, and click analytics are planned UTM Builder Pro features; the core link builder always stays free.
Can I add UTM tags to a URL that already has parameters?
Yes. If your destination URL already has a query string (like ?ref=abc) or a #fragment, the builder merges the UTM parameters in after the existing query and keeps the fragment at the end, so the resulting link stays valid.
