What lorem ipsum is for
Lorem ipsum is scrambled, meaningless Latin-like text used as filler while you design. Because the words carry no meaning, they let you judge a layout’s typography, spacing, and rhythm without getting distracted by the actual copy. Designers have used variants of this passage since the 1500s, and it remains the fastest way to answer “how will this look once there’s real text in it?”
How this generator works
Pick what you want — words, sentences, or paragraphs — set the count, and the text appears instantly. The output is built from the classic lorem word list:
- Words returns exactly the count you ask for, joined into a single string.
- Sentences assembles sentences of varying length (8–16 words each) with proper capitalisation and full stops.
- Paragraphs groups several sentences per block, separated by blank lines, ready to paste straight into your mockup.
Leave “Start with Lorem ipsum…” on and the first line begins with the canonical Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet… opening that everyone recognises; turn it off and the generator starts from a fresh slice of the word pool. A one-click Copy button puts the whole block on your clipboard.
The generation is deterministic — the same settings always produce the same text — which means you can regenerate identical filler across screens or share settings with a teammate and get a matching result.
When to reach for it
Use lorem ipsum to fill a wireframe, stress-test a card or table with realistic text lengths, check how a heading wraps, or preview an article template before the copy is written. One caution: never ship lorem ipsum to production — placeholder Latin has a habit of escaping into live pages and emails. Swap in real content before launch.
Privacy
The text is generated entirely in your browser by the pure generateLorem function. Nothing is fetched from a server, stored in localStorage, or logged — generating filler is a local, offline operation.
