Why it Matters

Keyword density is a quick health check for on-page content: too low and your topic is unclear, too high and you risk looking spammy. Seeing your real word and phrase frequencies helps you write naturally for readers while still signalling your topic clearly to search engines.

What this tool does

Keyword Density Checker analyses a block of text and shows how often each word and phrase appears — both as a raw count and as a density percentage. It ranks one-, two-, and three-word phrases, and can check a specific focus keyword.

How it works

Your text is tokenised into words, and the tool counts single words plus two- and three-word phrases. Density is each term’s count divided by the total word count. Common stop words are filtered from the single-word list by default, and a focus keyword is measured separately so you can track your main target.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a good keyword density?
There's no official number, but a natural range of roughly 1–3% for your main keyword is a common guideline. The goal is to write for readers first; density is a sanity check, not a target to game. Anything that reads as repetitive is too high.
How is density calculated?
Density is the number of times a keyword appears divided by the total number of words, expressed as a percentage. The same denominator (total words) is used for one-, two-, and three-word phrases so the percentages are directly comparable.
What are stop words and why ignore them?
Stop words are common words like 'the', 'and', and 'of' that appear frequently but carry little topical meaning. Ignoring them (on by default) keeps the single-word ranking focused on words that actually describe your content.
What do the two- and three-word phrases show?
They rank the most common consecutive word pairs and triples in your text. These often reveal your real target phrases — for example 'content marketing' or 'free online tool' — which single words alone can miss.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. All analysis happens in your browser. Nothing you paste is sent to a server, logged, or stored — closing the tab clears it.
