Pace basics

Pace is how long it takes to cover one unit of distance — typically one kilometre or one mile. A pace of 5:00 min/km means each kilometre takes exactly 5 minutes. At that pace a 10K takes 50:00 and a half-marathon takes approximately 1:45:34.

What is a good running pace for beginners?
A comfortable beginner pace is typically 8:00–10:00 min/km (13–16 min/mile). At this pace a 5K takes 40–50 minutes. Pace is highly individual — what matters is consistency and gradual improvement rather than hitting any specific number. Consult a certified running coach for a personalised training plan.
How do I convert min/km to km/h?
Divide 60 by your pace in minutes. A pace of 5:00 min/km = 60 ÷ 5 = 12 km/h. A pace of 6:00 min/km = 60 ÷ 6 = 10 km/h. The tool calculates this automatically.
What is a negative split?
Running the second half of a race faster than the first. It is widely considered the most efficient racing strategy — you conserve energy early and accelerate when others fade. Most world records are set with negative or even splits.
How accurate are the projected splits?
