Features

  • Paste any number of names — no limit — newline- or comma-separated
  • Pick 1 to N unique winners in a single draw (no duplicates)
  • Animated spin effect for dramatic single-winner reveals
  • Auto-detects separator (newline vs comma) or set it manually
  • Shows remaining pool after each draw so you know who hasn't been picked
  • Reproducible draws with optional seed — enter the same seed to get the same result

Why it Matters

Randomness done manually is never truly fair — humans subconsciously favour familiar names or recent picks. A proper random picker eliminates bias, so every name has exactly the same probability of winning. Whether you're a teacher calling on students, a manager assigning tasks, or a business running a giveaway, the Random Name Picker gives you provably fair, auditable results in seconds.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the random draw really fair?
Yes. The tool uses a Fisher-Yates shuffle powered by JavaScript's Math.random() (or a seeded PRNG when you set a seed). Every permutation is equally likely, giving each name a 1-in-N probability of being selected.
Can I pick more than one winner?
Absolutely. Set 'Pick how many?' to any number up to 500. Winners are unique — no name is picked twice. If you request more winners than names, all names are selected.
What does the seed option do?
A seed makes the draw reproducible. Enter the same list and seed and you get the same result every time — useful for auditable draws. Leave seed at 0 for a fresh random draw.
Is my list stored anywhere?
No. Everything runs entirely in your browser. Your list is never sent to any server.
Can I do weighted draws where some names have higher odds?
Weighted draws are on the Pro roadmap. The free tool gives every name an exactly equal probability.
What is the maximum list size?
There is no enforced limit on names. The tool handles hundreds of names instantly in the browser.
