Why it Matters

Knowing exactly how many days separate two dates matters for deadlines, notice periods, interest accrual, and countdowns — and a single off-by-one error can change a contract date or a billing cycle. This tool gives an exact count, removes the inclusive/exclusive ambiguity with a clear toggle, and breaks the span into working days.

What this tool does

The Days Between Dates calculator counts the exact number of days separating two dates. Enter a start and end date, choose whether to include the end date, and you get the total days, a weeks-and-days breakdown, and separate weekday, weekend, and business-day counts.

How it works

The total is the difference in calendar days between the two dates; toggling “include the end date” adds one. The breakdown walks the span once to count weekend days, derives weekdays as the remainder, and computes Monday-to-Friday business days. The logic is a pure function, so results are deterministic and order-independent.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the count inclusive of the end date?
You choose. By default the count is exclusive — it measures the gap between the two dates, so May 9 to May 23 is 14 days. Turn on 'Include the end date' to count both endpoints, which makes it 15. The tool always shows both totals so there's no ambiguity.
What's different from the Date Difference tool?
Days Between Dates gives a single total day count plus a working-day breakdown. The Date Difference tool breaks the same span into years, months, weeks, and days for a calendar-style description. Use this one when you just need the number of days.
How are business days counted?
Business days are Monday to Friday across the full span, including both endpoints, with Saturdays and Sundays excluded. This count does not subtract public holidays — for holiday-aware working days, use the Business Days Calculator.
Does the order of the dates matter?
No. If the end date is earlier than the start date, the tool reports the same positive number of days and notes that the span is in the past.
Is anything sent to a server?
No. All calculations run in your browser. Nothing you enter is uploaded, logged, or stored.
