Introducing the SIP Calculator — Plan Your Wealth, One Month at a Time

Product Updates Tools.Town Team 28 April 2026 4 min read

We just launched a free SIP Calculator that shows you exactly how your monthly investments grow over time. Here's what it does, why we built it, and how to use it.

Systematic Investment Plans (SIPs) are the most common way Indians invest in mutual funds — and for good reason. They remove the guesswork of timing the market, automate discipline, and let compounding do the heavy lifting.

We’ve wanted to build a great SIP calculator for a while. Today, we’re shipping it.

What the SIP Calculator does

Enter three numbers:

  • Monthly investment — how much you invest every month
  • Expected annual return — your assumed CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate)
  • Tenure — how many years you plan to invest

The calculator instantly shows you:

  • Total invested — the actual cash you put in
  • Estimated returns — what compounding adds on top
  • Total corpus — what you walk away with at the end

It also draws a clear bar showing the invested vs returns split — so you can see at a glance how much of your corpus came from compounding rather than your own pocket.

Why we built it this way

Most SIP calculators give you a single number. We wanted to show the split — because the ratio of returns to invested amount is what makes compounding visually compelling.

When you invest ₹10,000/month for 20 years at 12% CAGR:

  • You invest ₹24 lakh of your own money
  • You end up with ₹99.9 lakh total
  • ₹75.9 lakh — 76% of the corpus — is pure compounding

That split is hard to grasp from a single number. The bar makes it obvious.

Formula used

We use the standard SIP future value formula:

FV = P × ((1 + r)^n - 1) / r × (1 + r)

Where P is the monthly investment, r is the monthly rate (annual rate ÷ 12), and n is the total number of months.

What’s next

  • Step-up SIP — increase your contribution by a fixed percentage each year
  • Goal-based mode — enter a target corpus, get the required monthly SIP
  • Inflation-adjusted returns — see real vs nominal corpus
